The park is open all year. Visitors have time slots from 9:30 to 17:30, and you can come in up to 30 minutes after your slot begins. If your slot is 9:30, you can enter until 10:00. Inside, you can stay as long as you like, but you cannot go out and come back.
The early morning, from 7:00 to 9:30 (to 9:00 in July and August), belongs to the residents of Barcelona. So does the evening, until 22:00, which starts at 18:00 in winter, at 18:30 from early February to late March and at 20:00 from late March to late October. There are no tourist visits at those hours. In bad weather the park can close for safety reasons, so look at the sky before you set off.
The opening hours page has the same information in a table.
How do I get there by metro?
Take line L3 to Lesseps. From the station it is about 20 minutes on foot. Enter by Avinguda del Santuari de Sant Josep de la Muntanya, the gate that has an escalator, and you save your legs for the park itself.
Vallcarca, also on L3, is another 20 minutes on foot. The route uses the escalators of Baixada de la Glòria, but they may be out of service, so Lesseps is the safer choice.
And by bus, taxi or car?
Lines H6 and D40 stop at Travessera de Dalt, about 10 minutes on foot. From there you can enter by Avinguda del Santuari de Sant Josep de la Muntanya or by Carrer Larrard.
The Bus Turístic (blue line) and the Barcelona City Tour (east route, green) have a stop called Park Güell on Avinguda de la Mare de Déu de Montserrat, about 10 minutes on foot. From there the recommended entrance is on Carretera del Carmel.
There is a taxi stop on Carretera del Carmel. Private cars are not recommended, but there is a car park on Travessera de Dalt.
Which gate should I use?
The main gate, with the two pavilions, is on Carrer d’Olot. The park also has gates on Carretera del Carmel (number 23, the recommended one), Carrer de Larrard, Avinguda del Santuari de Sant Josep de la Muntanya and Carrer Marianao. After the gate, a second checkpoint leads to a one-way route where you may have to wait.
Is Park Güell easy for everyone?
It is a hill. The paths are uneven, there are many steps and some ramps are steep, so wear shoes with a good grip. An adapted route exists, with a stretch of about 50 minutes through the architectural area and a path along the viaduct of about 20 minutes. The entrance on Carretera del Carmel has three places for people with reduced mobility in the coach car park in front of the gate.
What are the rules?
- Dogs: allowed on a lead, but not in Plaça de la Natura, the Hypostyle Hall, the Dragon Stairway, the Austria Gardens or the Laundry Portico.
- Picnic and smoking: picnics only in the marked areas, and you use the bins. Smoking is not allowed.
- Behaviour: do not climb walls or lean on the heritage elements, do not lie on the benches and do not take off your shoes or clothes.
- Bikes, megaphones and speakers: bicycles are generally not allowed, and neither are megaphones or speakers during visits.
- Photos and filming: professional or commercial filming needs written permission in advance.
What can I find inside?
There are three public toilets: at the gate on Carretera del Carmel, on Passeig de les Palmeres next to Plaça de la Natura, and next to the Carrer d’Olot gate. There are drinking fountains marked on the map, and it is wise to bring your own water. A shop sits in one of the entrance pavilions.
Are some paths closed?
Yes, some paths can be closed for restoration and other works, so you may not be able to do a complete circuit of the viaducts. Also, the serpentine bench and its railing are being cleaned and restored, and part of the terrace may be fenced off. The best way to enjoy the day is to go with curiosity and not with a fixed route.
Which one for you?
Coming from the centre with little time? Take the metro to Lesseps and leave early enough to reach the gate within 30 minutes of your slot. Travelling with someone who walks slowly or uses a wheelchair? Use the gate on Carretera del Carmel. Ready to book? See the tickets page and choose your slot.
